RD Sharma Class 8 Solutions Chapter 18 - Practical Geometry

Students have learned different properties of various figures like triangles, quadrilaterals in the previous chapters. In this chapter 18 of Practical Geometry, students will learn how to apply the knowledge practically. This chapter discusses how to construct various figures like a parallelogram, squares, rectangles, and real-life quadrilaterals. Gaining knowledge is only one step of the process.

You can download chapter 18 of Practical Geometry and solve the questions from the exercise. This will help the students practice for the exam. They can cross-check the answers with the given solutions in the same PDF. Vedantu provides material for the different board and competitive exams.

Following are the topics discussed in chapter 18 of Practical Geometry:

  • Construction of quadrilaterals when different measures of sides and angles.

  • Construction of quadrilaterals when four sides and one diagonal

  • Construction of quadrilaterals when two diagonals and three sides

  • Construction of quadrilaterals when two adjacent sides and three angles

  • Construction of quadrilaterals when three sides and two included angles of a quadrilateral

  • Construction of quadrilaterals when other properties of a quadrilateral

FAQs on RD Sharma Class 8 Solutions Chapter 18 - Practical Geometry (Ex 18.2) Exercise 18.2

1. What is practical geometry according to the class 8 maths CBSE textbook?

Geometry is a branch of maths that deals with points, lines, planes, surfaces, and their intersections and dissections. Practical geometry is a branch of geometry that deals with the construction of these kinds of geometrical objects like triangles, quadrilaterals. It helps in selecting material to be used for construction, the process of constructing buildings, and daily used objects. These days different types of houses are being constructed with customized needs. Practical geometry plays a key role in bringing these structures from paper to life. However, concepts of congruence and parallelism are a bit challenging in practical geometry.

2. How to construct a quadrilateral when you know three sides and two included angles?

Practical geometry deals with the construction of different geometrical objects. Chapter 4 of the class 8 CBSE textbook deals with practical geometry. Following are the steps to construct a quadrilateral when you know three sides and two included angles:

  • Draw the base of a given length

  • Make different angles with the given value

  • Make a point as center and draw arcs with the given value of the other two sides.

  • Now join the four points to get a required quadrilateral.

To know this in detail please read the PDF and find out from various explained and detailed examples.

3. How to construct a quadrilateral with special properties?

Let us assume we have to draw a rhombus PQRS with dimensions of PR = 5 cms, QS = 6 cms. You should remember that the diagonals of a rhombus are perpendicular to each other hence, they meet at 90 degrees. Draw a line segment PR with 5 cms length. Name the point O at the perpendicular bisector of PR. with O as the center draw two arcs with a radius of 6 cm and mark them as points QS. Join the points PQRS to get a required rhombus. For a more detailed explanation refer to the PDF and find some examples with solutions.

4. How to construct a quadrilateral when you know two adjacent sides and three angles?

Practical geometry deals with the construction of geometrical figures like quadrilaterals, triangles, etc., To construct a quadrilateral when two adjacent sides and three angles are given, you need to follow the given steps. Let us assume you have to construct a figure ALPN with AL = 6 cms LP = 4 cms. The value of the angle NAL is 110 degrees and ALP is 75 degrees, LPN is 90 degrees. First, draw the line segment AL. make angle ALP and NAL. make L as a center and with a radius of 4 cm, cut an arc at P. Make an angle LPN, join all the points to get the required quadrilateral.

5. How to improve scores in practical geometry exams?

Practical geometry deals with constructing geometric figures. It is a subpart of mathematics. It is an important chapter for class 8 CBSE students. To score well in this chapter, students have to go thoroughly through the textbook and understand the different features of various geometrical figures like triangles, quadrilaterals, and other polygons. It is important to know their properties and figure out how each and each other figure differently. Students are recommended to memorize all the formulas to avoid confusion and practice as many problems as possible to improve efficiency. Avoid simple mistakes like miscalculating the length of the line and certain angles. Students can make a rough diagram initially and then make a proper diagram of it neatly.
