IEO Olympiad Exam 2022-23: Dates, Application, Eligibility Criteria

The International English Olympiad (IEO) is a yearly exam conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) to test the student's knowledge and skills in English Language and Grammar for classes 1 to 12. Along with several other Olympiad exams like IGKO, NSO, IMO, and NCO, the IEO is one of the most popular exams by SOF that helps students to analyse and evaluate their potential and expertise in English.  

Participating students can compete and judge themselves academically at four levels - Within school, at the city level, at the national level and above all, at the international level. They receive a Student Performance Report (SPR) and various exciting prizes and awards based on their performance at different levels. 

Note:

• The International English Olympiad (IEO) 2022 will be held on 22nd September 2022, 14th October 2022, and 1st November 2022, according to the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF). 

• Schools can select one date to conduct the SOF IEO exam at their convenience.

IEO 2022-23 Overview

SOF IEO 2022-23 Exam Eligibility

All the students who are willing to test their English knowledge with other students can participate in the SOF IEO exam 2022-23. SOF conducts the exam in two levels where only the top performing students in Level 1 are eligible to participate in the Level 2 exam. 

Eligibility criteria are different for each level. Here it is as follows:

Level 1 Eligibility Criteria

• There are no specific criteria or requirements for minimum marks for the Level 1 exam. Any student from classes 1 to 10 is eligible to take the exam. 

• However, the school must be affiliated with a certified education board such as CBSE, ICSE, etc.
  

Level 2 Eligibility Criteria

Only the top performing students in the Level 1 exam are eligible to take the Level 2 exam. 

• Top 5% of the students from each class who appeared for the Level 1 exam.

• Top 25 zone-wise and class-wise rank holders.

• Class toppers from every participating school with at least 10 students from a class appear in the exam and score 50% qualifying marks.

• Top rank holders in case of section-wise registration. 

Please note that the students from Classes 1 and 2 will be ranked based on their performance in Level 1. They won’t appear for the Level 2 exam.

SOF IEO 2022-23 Registration/Application Process

To be eligible to take the test, students are required to fill and submit IEO 2022-23 registration form. Here are the steps to apply for the SOF IEO exam 2022-23:

• First, the schools need to get themselves registered with the SOF. The registered schools will be sent the prospectus containing the registration forms.

• Students must get the IEO 2022 registration forms from their school’s principals or in charge of authority.

• Schools that aren’t registered with SOF can contact SOF and request a prospectus through email at info@sofworld.org.

• Students need to fill out the forms with the relevant details and submit them to their respective schools.

• The schools then return the duly filled forms to SOF before the due date.
  
  

SOF IEO 2022-23 Registration Fees

• For schools in India, each student must deposit a fee of INR 125.

• For international schools, the fee is USD 9 per student. 

• Schools may also collect an additional amount of INR 125 for mentoring and guiding, etc.

SOF IEO 2022-23 Exam Pattern

The IEO exam is conducted in two levels with rank holders in Level 1, who get qualified for the Level 2 exam.

SOF IEO Level 1 Exam Pattern

For Class 1 to 4

For Class 5 to 12

• The duration of the exam is 60 minutes.
  
  

SOF IEO Level 2 Exam Pattern

The syllabus for the exam would be similar to the Level 1 exam.

Students who get passed in the Level 1 exam can qualify for the Level 2 exam. However, the students from Classes 1 and 2 are judged on the basis of their performance in Level 1, and they don’t need to appear for the Level 2 exam.

• Rank 2nd - INR 25,000 Each + Silver Medal + Certificate of Outstanding Performance

• Rank 3rd - INR 10,000 Each + Bronze Medal + Certificate of Outstanding Performance

Zonal Level

• Rank 1st - INR 5000 Each + Gold Medal + Certificate of Zonal Excellence

• Rank 2nd -INR 2500 Each + Silver Medal + Certificate of Zonal Excellence

• Rank 3rd - INR 1000 Each + Bronze Medal + Certificate of Zonal Excellence

• Rank 4th to 10th - Gifts worth INR 1000 Each + Medal of Distinction + Certificate of Distinction + Certificate of Zonal Excellence

• Rank 11th to 20th - Certificate of Zonal Excellence + Medal of Distinction + Certificate of Distinction

SOF IEO 2022-23 Results

SOF IEO 2022-23 results will be declared in February, and March (Tentative). Students can check their results on the SOF official website. Enter the roll number and school code to check the result. 

Thus, students who plan to compete in the IEO exam should be familiar with the exam pattern and are advised to devote time to each section. Create a timetable and practice regularly.
