What is the Mathematics Olympiad?

The International Maths Olympiad (IMO) is organised by the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) in India. The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) administers all the selection process on behalf of NBHM.

2. Pre-Regional Mathematics Olympiad (PRMO)

The PRMO exam is administered by the Mathematics Teachers’ Association (MTA), while the remaining rounds are administered by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE). The students must qualify in the PRMO to get selected for the RMO exam.

3. Regional Mathematics Olympiad (RMO)

Regional Mathematics Olympiad (RMO) is the second level of the mathematical talent search examination conducted in India. The exam is held in different parts of India under the supervision of HBCSE, Mumbai. The exam is offered only at a few locations in the region. It lasts for 3 hours and consists of 6 questions.

4. Indian National Mathematics Olympiad (INMO)

Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) is a mathematical olympiad that is held throughout India. It is a 4-hour examination that contains a total of 6 questions. It is the third phase in the HBCSE IMO and a popular annual Maths competition for high school students. The syllabus and the difficulty level of this examination will be similar to that of the previous year's INMO. The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education organises the INMO exam each year.

The International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC) is the fourth stage of the exam to which the top 35 students from INMO are invited. It takes place in April and May. During this program, students get orientation for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). It enhances the intellectual and problem-solving skills of the students. During the camp, there will be several selection exams while six students are selected to represent India on their performance in these tests in the IMO. The training sessions are attended by resource individuals from various institutions around the nation.

5. International Olympiads of Maths (IOM) 

The International Olympiads of Maths (IOM) assesses the mathematical and analytical skills of the students. The competition is open to all the students from Classes 1 to 12. Any student from a recognized educational board, including CBSE, ICSE, and other State Boards can participate in the exam.

The eligibility for the Maths Olympiad varies according to the type of the olympiad exams a student is applying for. For example, all the students from Classes 1 to 12 can apply for the International Maths Olympiad (IMO) conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation.
