This chapter focuses on the different methods that the children in our country use as a means of travelling to their schools. These means can be listed as under:

In Assam, People use Bamboo Bridges 

In the northeastern regions of our country like Assam, there is very heavy rainfall. They experience knee level water because of this. Here comes the role of a Bamboo Bridge. Children use this to go to their schools. They hold books in one hand, and the bamboo in another, and quickly cross the bridge to reach their school.

In Ladakh, Children use Trolley

To cross the deep rivers in Ladakh, children use trolleys. In trolleys, there is a strong rope across the river. Both sides of the rope are tied against strong trees or rocks. Around 5 children can sit in one trolley.

Cement Bridges

To cross some water bodies, we make use of bridges which are made of cement, iron rods and bricks. However, this bridge is very different from a bamboo bridge as it is much stronger and can bear heavy weights.

In Kerala, Children use Vallam

In many parts of Kerala, children use a small wooden boat to reach their schools. This wooden boat is called a Vallam.

In Rajasthan, Children use Camel Cart

In Rajasthan, there is sand all around, and the climate gets very hot. Therefore, children use camel carts to reach their schools.

In villages, Children use Bullock Cart

In villages located in the plains, children ride through bullock carts that pass through the green fields.

Bicycle Ride

Children ride bicycles to cover the long roads to the school. The use of bicycles make it easier for children and students to go to places easily, whether it is ti schools or for running errands.

In Gujarat, Children use Jugad

Jugad is a special transport unit that resembles a motorcycle from the front. But it is a carriage made of planks of wood. Children in Gujarat use it to travel to their schools.

In Northern hills, Children go through the Snow

In Northern Hills, children hold their hands and walk very carefully through miles of snow to reach their schools. If the snow is soft, their feet sink in. If it is frozen, they may slip and fall so they need to be very careful.

In Uttarakhand, Children go through Rocky Paths

In many parts of Uttarakhand, the houses of children are situated in mountains. So, the local children cross rocky and uneven paths and even then learn to race up and down during the journey of going to school.
