Chapter 2 Summary

In this chapter we talk about the differences between the Hindi words that are used in the modern language and those used in the ancient text. This chapter is about the ancient Indian languages. The English words we used were learned from western writings. The words in the ancient Indian texts, on the other hand, were learned by the authors from the language they spoke. In this chapter, we discuss some of the differences between modern and ancient Hindi. Modern and ancient Hindi are not exactly the same. For instance, the modern language uses the word ‘yogi’. In the ancient text, however, it means a person who follows various yogic paths. This chapter is about the differences between ancient and modern Hindi. In the past, they used words that were different from those that we know in our modern language. They used the Sanskrit word ‘yoga’ for example. Today, we use the word yoga to mean yoga and the same word ‘yogi’.

We understand the difference between modern and ancient Hindi because we studied the same language as our ancestors. They wrote words that sounded strange to us. They used words with different meanings. The author says that the grammar and vocabulary are also different in ancient and modern Hindi. This chapter is the start of this book. The purpose of this book is to study the differences between ancient and modern Hindi. If you have the Hindi part of this book then it is not a problem if you miss the summary here. We are introducing the language of your ancestors. You don’t need to worry. If you are learning to speak, read, write, and understand modern Hindi in the modern world, then you know what we will be learning in this chapter.
