Short Answer Questions

1. How Did Satyajit Look?

Ans: Satyajit was a tall, slender man in his forties. He had angular features, and his hair receded in large, gleaming patches on his temples. To protect his eyes from brightness, he donned smart-eye spectacles. His thin lips might tighten in response to a phrase that implied strength of will but could just be pride.

2. How the Clerk Grew into an Accountant?

Ans: On the gravel path, twenty metres from the front door, the bank clerk chased down his target. It was not a fight. In a heap, the man crumpled. With his head between his hands, he squatted. The clerk progressed in this manner until he became an accountant. He had earned everything he had. He wasn't designed to work as a clerk.

3. What Happened When Satyajit Slipped Down?

Ans: When Satyajit stepped off the ox cart at the door of a mud-brick house, a tangle of ladies with brass water-bowls came forward and clambered over his feet, scrambling for the opportunity to wash his feet with cool water. Satyajit drew back in embarrassment.

4. Why Did Uncle Srinath Rush?

5. What Was Srinath’s Favourite Word and What Satyajit Felt Related to It?

Ans: Srinath's favourite word was Benediction. Its meaning isn't abstract in the least. It could only be construed in monetary terms. Satyajit felt a smouldering sensation inside him. 5 Marks Question

Long Answer Questions

1. What Did Satyajit Decide and Why?

Ans: Satyajit made the decision to attend the wedding at Shantipur. The metropolis was causing him to suffocate more and more, so this decision would be a nice reprieve. By returning to the physical scene that had been his beginning point in life, his mind would be refreshed and his power replenished for the future conflict. He'd also take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit the ancestral house and fish pond, both of which were leased out and remained intact despite the massive demolition.

2. What Happened at the Railway Station?

Ans: Satyajit peered out the door as the train came to a halt and searched the platform for uncle Srinath. At the station, a large crowd of people stood pressed together, attentive and thrilled, one of them holding the national flag on a bamboo pole. As he stepped down, a stampede of legs rushed at him. The legs came to a halt, followed by a deafening chorus. With a jasmine garland in her hands, a tiny girl with an amazing face moved up. On tiptoe, the girl rose and wrapped the flower chain around his neck.

3. How Satyajit Was Welcomed and Treated at the Marriage?

Ans: When Satyajit arrived at the wedding, he noticed a shy, slim girl with huge thoughtful eyes and an elegant face who had stepped forward. Satyajit gave her a benediction by touching her hair. She got down on her knees and unlaced his shoes. She took off his socks and put cold water on his feet before carefully washing them. Her slender fingers twitched his toes, making him feel ticklish. He sat on the inner verandah's carpet with a tray of sweets and a glass of whey, while Kamini, Damini, and Suhasi sat close by, waving palm-leaf fans with all their might.

4. What Was the Determination Made by Satyajit and Why?

Ans: Satyajit was adamant that he should have a good time. He felt a pang of regret for not thinking of coming to Shantipur and basking in the people's adoration when the time was right. He'd become a phoney. He pretended to be the man he had been for a few weeks. Waving away a sand fly and remorse, he made a furious movement of his palm around his face. Even though he was surrounded in the lingering twilight splendour of gone greatness, he forced himself to remain happy for the day.

5. What Did Satyajit Do the Rest of the Day?

Ans: Satyajit spent the rest of the day touring the hamlet, meeting his elders, sipping the green coconut milk offered to him, and paying a visit to a tenant's residence. He possessed his house's walls with his hands. Even in his opulent city mansion, the house provided him with a sense of security he had not experienced before. He sat at the fish pond for about an hour. On his head, he sprayed a palmful of pond water. At the end of the hook, a good-sized carp arrived. He brought his catch from the pond home with him.
