Ans:  The crocodile visited the monkey in search of fruit for himself and his wife.

Ans:  Monkey was sad because for a long time he was alone and he had no friends around. He wanted someone to share the fruits with.


5. Did the crocodile come to eat the monkey? Do they become enemies?

Ans: No, the crocodile didn’t come to eat the monkey. The purpose of the crocodile's arrival was the search for food.  They did not become enemies. In fact, they became best friends.

1. What conversations the two friends generally had?

Ans: The two friends generally talked about the birds and the other animals that lived nearby and in the jungle. They also had words about the villagers that suffer from difficulties in raising good crops due to the shortage of rain. 


2. What made the wife crocodile annoyed at her husband?

Ans:  The wife crocodile was annoyed at the husband crocodile as she alone had to take care of their children alone while he had stayed at the monkey’s place longer than other days. She was annoyed because he was neglecting his duties towards his children.


3. Did the crocodile immediately agree to invite the monkey?

Ans: No, the crocodile didn’t agree to invite the monkey immediately. Firstly, he denied that he would not do it as the monkey is his friend and he helped him a lot. But then his wife convinced him of the heart and he had to listen to his wife and invited the monkey.


4. Who says this dialogue and why?

“Sorry, my friend,” he said hesitatingly, “but I have to go underwater now. I’ve brought you here to kill you. My wife cannot survive without eating your heart. Goodbye.”

Ans: The given dialogue is spoken by the husband crocodile as he faces troubles in swimming through the heavy current in the river. He tells this to his friend monkey whom his wife and he wanted to kill and eat.


5. How did the monkey react knowing the truth of the invitation?

Ans: The monkey, when came to know the truth, got angry at the crocodile for tricking him. Then he became scared. As he was very clever and wise, thus, he acted accordingly. He played the crocodile’s simple-mindedness and told him that he left his heart on the tree and they’ll have to go back to get it back. So the monkey took him back to the tree and saved himself.

1. Describe the character of the monkey in the story “The Monkey and the Crocodile”.

Ans: The monkey in the story, ‘The Monkey and the Crocodile’ is portrayed as a humble animal at first. He happily lived on a tree and ate fruits. However, he became sad as he longed for a friend in his lonely life. Finally, he became friends with a crocodile from the river. He shared fruits with the crocodile and invited him for chats. He showed true friendship and unselfishness to him. However, when he found out that his friend was betraying him, he cleverly saved himself and went back to living alone.


2. Describe the character of the husband crocodile in the story “The Monkey and the Crocodile”. 

Ans: The character of the crocodile presented in the story of ‘The Monkey and the crocodile’ showed many contrasting qualities.  He was warm and friendly towards the monkey but acted selfishly by betraying him. He made quick friends with the monkey and shared his fruits. Though he was readily influenced by his wife and tricked the monkey into coming to his home hoping to provide the monkey's heart as food. Again at the end of the story when he not only got fooled by the monkey and lost his friendship, we see sadness and lament in him because he had lost such a great friend.


3. Describe the character of the wife crocodile in the story “The Monkey and the Crocodile”.

Ans: The wife crocodile is portrayed as a selfish and doubtful animal. The husband crocodile daily got her fruits and food to eat but she doubted him and his friendship with the monkey. She could not find the reason why a monkey had to befriend a crocodile. She influenced the husband crocodile to betray his friend and bring him over to her house. She wished to eat the monkey’s heart. She also had an upper hand in the family as unwillingly husband crocodile agreed to trick the monkey. 


4. What is the moral of the story “The Monkey and the Crocodile”?

Ans: The moral of the story “The Monkey and the Crocodile” is to never trust someone blindly and also that we should never betray anyone.

In the story, the monkey blindly trusted the crocodile and almost got killed. It was only his cunning nature that saved him from becoming food to the crocodile’s family.


5. What would you have done if you were at the place of the husband crocodile? Do you think he did the right thing by listening to his wife?

Ans: If I was at the place of the husband crocodile, I would never have betrayed my friend who had been nothing but kind and friendly to me. Even if my dear family member asked me to do so.  As no matter what, it was the wrong thing to do. We should never betray or backstab people who help us in our need and family and friends that have always been with us. No, the husband crocodile didn’t do the right thing by listening to his wife. Instead, he should have corrected her that the monkey is his friend and no matter what he wouldn’t do any such thing to him, neither should she.
