Ans: Mr Wonka collected a hair or an eyebrow and also an ounce of the jam scraped from between the toes of the ancient animals when they were sleeping.


2. What are the things that Mr Wonka tracked down? 

Ans: The things which Mr Wonka traces are— the Whistle-pig, the bobolink, the skrock, the pollyfrog, the giant curlicue, the stinging slug, and the venomous squerkle.


3. How did Mr Wonka do his inventions?

Ans: Mr Wonka collected samples first. And after a lot of boiling, bubbling, mixing, and testing, in his inventing room, he produced a tiny cupful of oily black liquid.

 

4. On whom did he try his samples? 

Ans:  Mr Wonka gave four drops of his oily black liquid to a twenty-year-old Oompa-Loompa volunteer to know if the experiment had worked or not.

Long Answer Questions: 5 Marks

1. What was the first invention of Mr Wonka? What was its result?

Ans: Mr Wonka’s first invention was Wonka-Vite. He invented that medicine to make people younger. Instead, Wonka-Vite was not appropriate for consumption. It was too strong and many side effects began to appear among people.  It was so strong that some people disappeared as their age became worse. A person turned minus eighty-seven years old, which means he had to wait eighty-seven years before he could come back into existence.


2. What were the things collected by Mr Wonka while travelling from the Great Glass Elevator? 

Ans: Mr Wonka collected the diverse items while travelling from the Great Glass Elevator. He collected a pint of sap collected from a Bristlecone pine tree, that was about four thousand years old, an egg laid by a 200-year-old tortoise that belonged to the king of Tonga. He also gathered the toe-nail clipping is from a 168-year-old Petrovitch Gregorovitch, a Russian farmer. His collection also included the whiskers of a 36-year-old cat called Crumpets and also an old flea that lived on Crumpets, the tail of a 51-year-old horse in Arabia and the tail of a 207-year-old giant Rat from Tibet. In his possession, he had the black teeth gathered from a 97-year-old Grimalkin who lived in a cave on mount Popocatepetl as well as the knucklebones of a 700-year-old Cattaloo from Peru.


3. Give a character sketch of Mr Wonka.

Ans:  Mr Willy Wonka was a strange man. He made all the strange inventions. He had an assistant, Charlie. There were volunteers, Oompa-Loompa, on whom he tested his inventions. Mr Wonka also had an inventing room in which he performed all his experiments and the mysterious work. Once, he had invented a tonic called Wonka-Vite which made people younger but soon it started having side effects so he had to make a tonic that would reverse the effect of Wonka-Vite. So, he invents Vita-Wonk, a tonic made from all the ancient things he had collected to make people grow older.


4. What is the poem “Dad and the Cat and the Tree” about?

Ans: The poem “Dad and the Cat and the Tree” is about a man who climbs up the tree to save a cat. One morning, the narrator’s dad sees that a cat got stuck in the tree, so he decides to climb up and save it. He is continuously being warned by his wife, the narrator’s mother, that he might fall, but he ignores it. The father climbs up again and again but fails, and when he made the final chance, he climbed it up easily, but the cat sprung on the ground, and the father got stuck on the tree.

 

5. Write the moral of the story “The Invention of Vita Wonk.”

Ans: The moral conclusion of the story “The Invention of Vita Wonk '' is that humans should not interfere with the natural processes of life. God has created us in the most perfect way he could. When we play with it as Mr Wonka did, we may suffer consequences. When he made the first tonic to make people younger, it had side effects and people went invisible. So, to reverse it he makes another tonic to make people older, but when he tested it on his volunteers, he saw that his volunteer had turned very old in the blink of an eye. Therefore, we shouldn’t play with nature or beauty as perfection lies in imperfections.
