LG Full Form

LG is an acronym that can be used to mean a number of things. Lg full form can be anything ranging from the initials of a person to the identification of a company or a government entity or a post in government administration. The most commonly used lg full form is for the lg full form in government and the lg company full form. The LG full form in government is Lieutenant Governor and the LG company full form is Lucky Goldstar. This article mostly deals with these two lg full forms. 

LG Full Form in Government

LG is an acronym most widely used for Lieutenant Governor. Thus, lg full form in government is Lieutenant Governor which is an administrative position that is widely held in government administration systems where the Governor heads a specific region and the Lieutenant Governor is the head of a region smaller than the typical bounds of the Governor. For example, in Indian Administrative System a Governor is the head of a full-fledged state such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, etc. whereas union territories like Puducherry and Delhi have a Lieutenant Governor as the administrative head of the region. 

But the role and responsibilities are not limited to specifics and can vary from place to place. A lieutenant governor, lieutenant-governor, or vice governor are the official positions that have the roles and responsibilities of an lg or similar to an lg. The person holding the office of the lg is the high officer of the state. Typically the position of the lieutenant governor is the position of a deputy or lieutenant which is ranked under a governor. It is a position which is the “second-in-command” like a deputy governor. In the Canadian provinces such as in the Dutch Caribbean the lieutenant governor is actually the representative of the monarch in a given jurisdiction. This is different from India, where the lg full form is used for the position of special administrative division like the union territory. 

On the other hand, in the United States, lieutenant governors are the second-in-commands to a state governor. The powers of the lieutenant governors vary greatly from one state to another. The lieutenant governor comes right after the governor and is first in line of succession after the governor in absence of the governor. In the United States the lieutenant governor is also often the president of the state senate. 

Role & Appointment Of Lieutenant Governor In India

In India, the Governor of any state holds the same amount of legislative powers and functions as the President of India has at the Union level. Governors are the heads of the state while Lieutenant Governor (LG long form) is the head of union territory. The National Capital Territory of Delhi also has a Lieutenant Governor with the same powers and functions as in union territories. In other union territories the powers of an LG are more than the council of ministers but in the National Capital Territory of Delhi and the union territory of Puducherry the LG shares the powers with the council of ministers. 

In India, the rank of Lieutenant Governor is present only in the union territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi and Puducherry. Typically, the lieutenant governors like the governors are appointed by the President for a term of five years. The term can be terminated by the President or the person holding the office resigns from the position. Although the President appoints the Lieutenant Governor, like the Governor, the person is ‘selected’ by the incumbent central government. 

To get to the post of having the lg long form as Lieutenant Governor, the following eligibility criterias need to be met:

• The candidate should be a citizen of India.

• The candidate should have attained a minimum of 35 years of age. 

• The candidate should not be a part of the parliament house or the state legislature house. 

• The candidate should not be in any hold of other profitable offices or any other government office. 

Lieutenant Governor in Delhi

The post of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi is a constitutional post. The LG is the head of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. It was established in September 1966 by the effect of The Delhi Administration Act, 1966. As a result, the former Delhi Legislative Assembly was replaced and its functioning was taken over by the Delhi Metropolitan Council. The Delhi Metropolitan Council consists of 56 elected and 5 nominated members, whose head is the Lieutenant Governor. An important fact is that the council does not hold any legislative powers. It only has an advisory role in the governance of Delhi. But in 1990 the Legislative Assembly of Delhi was reinstated. But the position of Lieutenant Governor retained its role as the head of the state.

Again, a bill was passed by both the houses of the Indian Parliament, named as the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021. According to this bill, the Government referred to in any law that was to be made by the Legislative Assembly will mean the Lieutenant Governor. Currently, the position is held by Anil Baijal, who was a former Union Home Secretary. The Official residence of Lieutenant Governor of Delhi is Raj Niwas. 

Before the position of LG was established, Delhi was headed by a Chief Commissioner, who used to be an ICS officer until 1966 when the Delhi Metropolitan Council with the LG as its head was established. Hence, up until now there have been 21 people who headed Delhi. Most of the officers were 12 IAS officers, 4 ICS officers, 2 IPS officers, 2 senior IAF officers and 1 IFS officer. All of the appointed persons of this post have generally retired except Najeeb Jung who has resigned from the service. 

There have been many instances in Delhi of tussle between the ruling government and the Lieutenant Governor. This happens when the ruling government of Delhi is different from the one at the centre, as the person holding the post of LG is appointed by the centre. Therefore, lg delhi full form is quite famous amongst the people involved in the politics and people keeping a keen interest in politics of the region. Hence, lg full form in Delhi is quite well-known for a powerful role and has been known for political clashes with the ruling government in the National Capital Region. 

LG Company

One of the most famously known companies having an abbreviated identity is LG. The company now known as LG Corporation, was formerly known as Lucky-Goldstar during the period of 1983 to 1995. Hence, the LG company full form is Lucky-Goldstar. It is a South Korean multinational conglomerate corporation. It was founded by Koo In-Hwoi and has been managed by the following generations of the family. It is the fourth largest chaebol in South Korea. The headquarters of the company are located at LG Twin Towers building in Yeouido-dong, located in Yeongdeungpo District of Seoul. The company is involved in the making of electrons, chemicals and telecommunication products. It operates subsidiaries like LG Electronics, Zenith, LG Display, LG Uplus, LG Innotek, LG Chem, and LG Energy Solution spread over 80 countries.

Originally, LG Corporation was established as Lak Hui Chemical Industrial Corporation. In the year 1952, Lak Hui which when pronounced became Lucky, became the first South Korean company to enter the plastics industry. When the company expanded the plastics business, it established the GoldStar Co. Ltd which is now known as LG Electronics Inc. in 1958. Since the merging of both the companies Lucky and GoldStar in 1983, it became known as Lucky-GoldStar or LG. 

GoldStar is known for producing South Korea's first radio. Some of the electronics goods were produced under the brand name of GoldStar whereas some (only in South Korea) were produced under the brand name Lucky. Hence, the Lucky brand became famous for hygiene products like soaps and HiTi laundry detergents and the most famous of them all the Lucky and Perioe toothpaste. The company LG presently still continues to produce some of these products for the South Korean markets. 

Started by Too In-hwoi, and then succeeded by his son Koo Cha-kyung it was further succeeded by his son Koo Bon-moo who renamed the company to LG in 1995. Due to its own unique tagline people, while wondering about what is the full form of lg, began associating the abbreviation with  its tagline - " Life's Good". Since the year 2009, the company has owned the domain name LG.com. Currently, after the death of Koo Bon-moo, his nephew and adopted son Koo Kwang-mo is the new CEO of the LG company.

LG has been a very widely famous name in the electronics industry. It has always been amongst the top spots in many of the markets across the world in terms of its electronic products. Let alone in the US, LG has been amongst the top five companies to have a major market share in the mobile market of the country. Along with the US, it has also been active in many countries. It has become a household and a common name in India with people recognising it for products such as television sets, washing machines, refrigerators, and mobile.
