1. What are the eligibility criteria to appear in IGKO exams?
IGKO is a single-level exam which is conducted every year in over 30 countries. Any student from these countries can take this exam until he/she fulfils the following criteria:
The student must be studying in the class from 1st to 10th to be eligible to appear in the exams.
The individual must be studying in an affiliated school with a reputed and recognised board, like ICSE (Indian School Certificate Examination), CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education), or any other state board, to appear in the exam.
2. Can I take the IGKO exam more than once?
Yes, you can take IGKO exams more than once. The IGKO (International General Knowledge Olympiad) exam is conducted once every year by SOF (Science olympiad foundation). You can take part in this exam every year till you satisfy the criteria for partaking in the exam set by SOF. This just means that you can take this exam every year till you are studying in a school, till 10th grade, If you intend to do so. So, there are no restrictions on taking the exam more than once.
3. What are the application fees for the eligible students for the IGKO exam?
The eligible students from India (and neighbouring countries) interested in taking part in the IGKO exam have to pay Rs 125/- per student as the application fees or registration fees to their respective schools. The schools may charge additional Rs 25/- per participant for remuneration to teachers and other expenses. Though in some conditions, students are completely exempted from paying any sort of application fees. Conditions like if the student has any kind of disability or if his/her parents are martyred in a defence operation.
4. What is the marking scheme used in the IGKO exam for Class 6?
The International General Knowledge Olympiad (IGKO) exam for Class 6 includes 50 multiple-choice questions. These 50 questions provide 60 marks in total. These questions are divided into four sections of the exam, which are given as follows:
Section 1: General Awareness (ncludes 30 questions, worth 1 mark each)
Section 2: Current Affairs (Includes 10 questions, worth 1 mark each)
Section 3: Life Skills (includes 5 questions, worth 1 mark each)
Section 4: Achievers Section (Includes 5 questions, which are worth 3 marks each)
5. Is there any negative marking in the IGKO exam?
No, there is no negative marking in the International General Knowledge Olympiad (IGKO) for any wrong answers. In fact, there is no negative marking done in any exam conducted by Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF). So, the candidates are free to attempt all the questions provided in the exam without the fear of getting any of them wrong. As you will not get negative marks of any sort in this exam. Hence, even if you don’t know the answer, you should attempt them even with guesswork.
