  1. Reading Comprehension (20 Marks)

Section A will have two passages, One passage with Objective Type Questions, including Multiple Choice questions, and Short Answer Questions to test comprehension, interpretation, and inference. The total length of the passage will be approximately 800-900 words. The student can expect one of the following:

  1. Factual passage (instruction, description, report)

  2. Descriptive passage involving opinion (argumentative, persuasive or interpretative text)

  3. Literary passage (fiction, drama, poetry, essay or biography)

Another passage will be of 400-500 words, where note-making and abstraction will be assessed.


B. Writing Skills (30 Marks)

  1. Advertisements and notices, designing or drafting posters, writing formal and informal invitations and replies. Answer anyone out of two short answer questions. (4 Marks)

  2. Letters based on verbal/visual input- Answer any one question out of two long answer questions (6 Marks)

Letter types: Business/Official letters, letters to the editor, job application

  1. Two compositions based on visual and verbal input- descriptive or argumentative (20 Marks)


C. Literature (30 Marks)

Eight Objective Type Questions, Where four from poetry and four from prose will be asked, each carrying one mark. Five out of seven short answer questions based on prose/poetry/drama will be asked, each carrying two marks. One out of two long answer questions from Flamingo (English reader) should be answered in 120-150 words, carrying six marks. One out of two long answer questions from Vistas (Supplementary reader) should be answered in 120-150 words, carrying six marks.
