CBSE Class 12 English Core Question Paper 2018 - Free PDF Download

As per the timetable, the CBSE Class 12th English Board exam 2018 was held on March 5 from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Students of CBSE Class 12 having English English Elective – C (101), English Elective ‒ N (001) & English Core (301)English Elective – C (101), English Elective ‒ N (001) & English Core (301) as one of their exam subjects took up the exam with complete preparation.

  

As usual, the question papers were distributed to students at sharp 10:15 AM. students were allotted a total of 15 minutes to read the complete question paper - from 10:15 AM to 10:30 AM. The examination commenced at 10:30 AM and continued till 1:30 PM. The exam got over efficiently without any unnecessary incidents. 


Solved 12th Board Paper 2018 English - Paper Analysis

CBSE Class 12 English question paper 2018 (Core) – C, carries a total of 100 marks.

It was divided into three sections: Section A, Section B, and Section C.

1. Section A: Reading Section (30 Marks)

2. Section B: Writing Skills (30 Marks)

3. Section C: Literature: Textbook and Long Reading Text (40 Marks)

Total Marks: 100 Marks

1. The question paper consisted of a total of 13 questions.

2. All the sections were compulsory. 

3. Separate instructions are given for each section and question, wherever they are necessary. 

4. Students were instructed not to exceed the required word limit.


Class 12 English Board Paper 2018 - Important Points about the Paper 

1. The paper was of medium difficulty level. 

2. The paper was easy when compared to CBSE Class 12 English question paper 2017

3. All the questions in the paper were taken from the syllabus. Not a single question was out of the syllabus.  

4. A few questions were repeated from the previous years’ question paper. This was an added advantage for those who took up solving previous year’s question papers seriously.

Solved 12th Board Paper 2018 English - Section Wise Analysis

The question paper had a total of thirteen questions. It had three sections, namely - Section A, Section B, and Section C. All the three sections account for a total of hundred marks.  The section-wise elaboration is given below.


1. Section A: Reading Section (30 Marks) 

This section tests your reading and comprehending capabilities. Three passages are provided here and you should answer the questions that follow them.

Question 1 - This was a passage question. You are expected to read the passage and answer the following questions which included the following :

1. Four multiple-choice based questions that carried one mark each

2. Six questions were supposed to be answered in brief and also carried one mark each.

3. Two questions to find the synonyms of the given words of one mark each.

Question 2 - This is also a passage-based question. You need to read the passage and answer the following questions which included the following :

1. Two multiple-choice based questions that carried one mark each

2. Six questions were supposed to be answered in brief and also carried one mark each.

3. Two questions to find the synonyms of the given words of one mark each.

Question 3 - this is the last passage-based question in the paper. It includes the following questions :

1. One question that carries five marks. You are supposed to read the passage and write notes with appropriate headings and titles. 

2. One question of three marks where you need to write the summary of the given passage

2. Section B: Writing Skills (30 Marks)

Question 4 - This question offers an internal choice. You can either write an advertisement or invitation based on the respective topic given. This question carries a total of four marks. 

Question 5 - Question 5 carries six marks. This is the letter section. There is a choice between two kinds of letters. One is placing an order and then the other is a formal letter applying for a job. You are supposed to write the letter in a total of 120 to 150 words. You are expected to not exceed the mentioned word limit. 

Question 6 -  in this question you are given a choice to write a debate on the given topic or a report on a provided article. The question carries a total of ten marks. As this is a ten marks question, the answer is supposed to have a proper introduction, body, and conclusion.

Question 7 - This question also carries ten marks. Here again, you are provided with an internal choice. The choice is between either writing an article on the given topic or writing a speech for the provided situation. As this is a ten marks question, the answer is supposed to have a proper introduction, body, and conclusion.

3. Section C: Literature: Textbook and Long Reading Text (40 Marks)

This is the literature section. You have to study the NCERT books thoroughly to be able to answer the questions in this section. 

Question 9 - This section has a total of six questions that carry three marks each. This question also has internal choices. You are supposed to answer any four out of the given six questions in about thirty to forty words. 

Question 10, Question 11, Question 12, and Question 13 - These are all again choice-based questions. All of them are in the format of question and answer or in terms of writing the summary of the particular scenario. In these questions, the answers are supposed to be between 120 words to 150 words. Each question here carries six marks. Therefore you are expected to stay within the word limit while providing precise and well-constructed answers.

Tips to Solve the Section A of CBSE Class 12 English Core Question Paper

1. Carefully read the heading first, as the title gives you a straightforward idea about what the paragraph is on.

2. Skim through the entire paragraph at a glance.

3. Go through the questions associated with the first paragraph.

4. After you are clear about the questions, read the entire text precisely.

5. Answer the questions while answering check not to drift away from the topic. Answer what is necessary.

1. While writing an advertisement, write a catchy line that draws attention. If you choose to create an invitation, clearly mention the date, the time, and the venue of the ceremony.

2. In letter writing, If asked to write a formal letter, make sure it is professional. While writing an informal letter, you can maintain a friendly tone. 

3. If you are writing a formal letter, have a clear subject line. For instance, if you are applying for a Writer's position, the Subject line should read-Application for a position at your company/institute. The subject line should read-Application for a position at your company/institute.

4. In report writing, write a clear headline, mention the date and the origin of the news. Write only the most relevant points. Be aware of the sequence of the happenings. Don't forget to present the views of all the parties involved. 

5. If you are writing a debate, use simple sentences. Use a tone you would use to address a live audience. Make use of phrases, questions, and quotes to prove a point. 

6. While writing an article, write in an active voice. Create a relevant title. Give accurate sub-heading wherever required.

7. If you go for speech writing, use proper tone, words, and expression. For instance, if your audience is primary school children, refrain from using intense vocabulary.

1. Read the literature given in your NCERT book thoroughly.

2. Remember the names of authors and poets of all the chapters.

3. While answering, stick to the question asked, avoid writing the entire story.
