Hint: To solve this question refer to the types of chemical reaction, as double decomposition reaction is one of the types of chemical reaction. Also, double displacement is known as salt metathesis reaction.
Complete Solution :
We have been provided with the double displacement reaction. We know that double decomposition is a type of chemical reaction.
So, firstly chemical reaction is a reaction in which one or more substances which are known as reactants are converted into one or more substances which are called products.
One of the classification of chemical reaction is double decomposition reaction,
So, double decomposition reaction is a chemical reaction in which there is a chemical process involving the exchange of bonds between two non-reacting chemical species resulting in the formation or creation of new products,
Let’s take an example of double decomposition reaction:
The formation of silver chloride and sodium nitrate as products when silver nitrate and sodium chloride react together,
\[NaCl+AgN{{O}_ {3}} \to AgCl+NaN{{O}_ {3}} \]
In this reaction, the salt of sodium and silver gets exchanged on reaction and forms silver chloride and sodium nitrate.
As there is an exchange of bonds between two non-reacting chemical species, so it is a double decomposition reaction.
Note: Chemical reaction does not tell us about the physical state of the reactants and the products involved in the reaction, so we need to add the information about the physical state for better understanding.
