A drop in temperature does affect spermatogenesis.
Reason: during the temperature drop the smooth muscle contracts and brings the testes closer to the pelvic cavity.
A. Both assertion and reason are correct and the reason is the correct explanation for the assertion.
B. Both assertions and the reason are correct but the reason is not the correct explanation for the assertion.

Hint: The process which involves the formation of haploid sperm in the seminiferous tubule of the testis from the germ cell is called spermatogenesis. The formation of sperm from the germ cell occurs by the mitotic division followed by the meiotic division. Spermatogenesis involves three stages, named spermatocytogenesis, meiosis, and spermiogenesis.

Complete answer: The normal body temperature of the human is 37c. Spermatogenesis needs a lower temperature than the body. Testes are located within a bag-like structure outside the male body behind the penis. The scrotum protects the testes. It also acts as the insulator which maintains s specific temperature within the testes that allows the spermatogenesis to occur properly. The scrotum allows the testes to remain at least 2-3c lower temperature than the body.
Due to the decrease in temperature the smooth muscle of the scrotum shrinks. Shrinking of smooth muscle leads to the testes to move closer to the cavity of the pelvic. When the testes are closed to the body it absorbs more heat from the body. The absorption of heat causes the sperm not to get the ideal temperature. Thus spermatogenesis is hampered due to not getting proper environmental conditions.
So, Both assertion and reason are correct and the reason is the correct explanation for the assertion.
So, the correct answer is “Option A”.

Note:
The male reproductive unit is the sperm. In the case of animals, sperm possess a tail which makes it motile. Sperm contains two parts, named head and tail. Head comprises coiled genetic materials that are surrounded by a sac known as acrosome. The tail of the sperm is also called a flagellum that helps the sperm to move forward to the egg.
