The camel is the only means of transport found in deserts, that’s why it is called the "Ship of Desert". To survive in the hot and dry conditions of the deserts, the body of a camel has undergone various modifications. To help them walk in the sand, they have very long legs that prevent the heat of the sand from reaching their bodies and also have a prominent back or hump which stores food which helps it to survive without food in the deserts for several days. Its ability to conserve water is another important adaptation that helps the camel to survive in the desert. Only small amounts of water excrete through urine as they do not sweat and also their dung is dry and devoid of water. All these modifications help the camel to conserve water and enable them to live without water for several days. Arabian camel and Bactrian camel are the two species of camels that vary slightly in physical appearance but share a suite of characteristics and physical features such as to help them survive in dry and arid conditions they have double rows of eyelashes that protect them from the direct sunlight.
