Hint The catchment area of this delta is shared between five countries. Its administration is also shared between Bangladesh and India, including the unique Sundarbans mangrove forest. It is located in the north of the Bay of Bengal.

Complete Step by Step Answer
The delta formed by Ganga and Brahmaputra is called Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna (GBM) Delta. This delta is fed and drained by the rivers Ganges, Meghna, and Brahmaputra along with their tributaries and distributaries. The cumulative river water discharge through this delta is the fourth largest in the world and it is the world’s largest sediment dispersal system.

Additional Information
The Ganges River drains the Himalayas and constitutes a major part of Northern India. The main stem of the Ganges continues flowing southwards where it meets the Brahmaputra River. The other stem flows through West Bengal in India as the Bhagirathi-Hooghly River. Brahmaputra river originates from Mansarovar Lake, near Mount Kailash, located on the northern side of mount Himalayas. It is the 15th longest river in the world and ninth largest river by discharge in the world. It is an important river for irrigation and transportation in the regions in which it flows.

Note
The people residing in the regions of Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna (GBM) Delta are mainly dependent on agriculture. The people living in the coastal regions are dependent on traditional monsoon rice cultivation and riverine and marine fishing activities. Freshwater flooding commonly occurs in this region during the monsoon season and helps in increasing soil fertility and agricultural production. It also supports a diversity of ecosystems that protects and supports a large population.

So, the delta formed by Ganga and the Brahmaputra is called Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna (GBM) Delta.
