The only volcano in India, Barren Island of Andaman and Nicobar, is an Active Volcano and had last erupted in 2017. Indira Point is the last village in the Nicobar district and also the southernmost point of the Republic of India.
Note: In 1789, The British East India Company set up their Naval Base and Penal Colony Chatham Island near Great Andaman, where now lies the town of Port Blair. The Islands were abandoned due to outbreaks of Malaria disease.
In 1858, the British again established a colony at Port Blair and the colony came to include the infamous Cellular Jail which was known as Kala Pani.
