Hint:Electromagnets are temporary magnets; they work as a magnet when electricity is provided to the. Electromagnets consist of a wire coiled around the shape (whatever the shave we want to have for our electromagnet). When the coiled wire carries current then a magnetic field is produced around them and hence, they work as electromagnets.
Complete answer:
Electric bell is used in every house as a DoorBell. It works on the basic mechanism of Electromagnetism. It consists of an electromagnet which works as a magnet only when current is supplied to it. When we press the switch, the circuit gets completed and the coil will produce a magnetic field and hence it will work as a magnet. The hammer is made up of a metal that is attracted by a magnet and it is connected to a spring.
When the coil induces a magnetic field, the hammer gets attracted towards it and the spring force works in the opposite direction and in this way the hammer continuously hits the bell again and again as the spring force pushes it to its normal position and the magnetic field attracts it toward the bell.
In this way an electromagnet is used in an Electric bell.
Note:
We can not use permanent magnets in electric bells because if we use a permanent magnet it will always have a magnet field and the hammer will keep hitting the bell and your doorbell will always be ringing. You will not be able to switch it off and the doorbell switch outside your home will be of no use since permanent magnets do not work on electricity.
