Hint: Public facilities are the facilities provided by the government to its country people. `They are important to sustain and lead a good life.

Complete Step by Step Answer: Public facilities play an important role in the development of a country as it includes health, education, transportation, banking. These are the facilities which an individual cannot access even at economic costs, hence the government provides the facilities to the public to ensure that the citizens live a quality life.
Four important facilities are as follows:
- In India, civilian hospitals and medical centres have been set up by the governments in various parts of the country which provides advanced medical aid to citizens. Health facilities such as hospitals, vaccine programmes, health schemes, expert doctors, diagnostic machines etc. are important so that a person can live his life comfortably because a healthy citizen is an asset of a country.
- The Government also provides schools, universities for educational purposes and other educational facilities such as books, libraries etc.
- Transport is an important factor in the development of one country. Transportation facilities like airways, railways, waterways become affordable only if they are provided collectively. Connectivity among different regions of the country promotes free movement of people as per their needs.
- The government provides a Public Distribution System such as ration shops to provide basic food items like wheat, pulses, rice, sugar and more at very low prices.

Note: The main source of funds for public facilities are the taxes collected from people. The government of a country is empowered to collect taxes from its people and uses them for the development of the country or a state. So, in order to supply water, the government has to collect the cost of pumping the water and the main source of revenue is the tax paid by the citizens of the country.
