Hint:Electromagnetic waves are also known as EM waves. These waves are not deviated by any electric or magnetic field. They can travel even in vacuum. Light waves are the most common example of Electromagnetic waves as it came to us from the Sun by travelling millions of kilometers in vacuum and are known to us as Visible Light Rays.
Complete answer:
Basically, there are 7 different types of Electromagnetic Wave, these are categorized by in terms of frequency and wavelength. These 7 types of waves are as follows:
Radio Waves, Microwaves, Infrared, Visible, Ultraviolet, X-Ray, Gamma Rays.
Radio waves have the longest wavelength and small frequency while the gamma rays have shortest wavelength and high frequency.
The frequency and wavelength of these waves are as shown in figure. A special technique called spectroscopy is used to detect the region of these waves in terms of wavelength. Apart from frequency and wavelength these waves are also categorized in terms of energy and temperature. Gamma rays have the highest energy and radio waves have the lowest energy in the above spectrum. Some rays are also classified as ionizing rays as they have enough power to ionize the hydrogen atom; these waves are Gamma rays, X-Rays and High energy ultraviolet rays.
Note:
Spectroscopy is a technique used to detect the range of wavelengths of these rays but this technique has a vast use. From the labs on earth to Astrophysics, Spectroscopy is used. Spectroscopy is used to detect the materials and atmosphere on other plans and extra-terrestrial objects. Apart from this spectroscopy is used in many different experiments in our lab.
