Hint: You always use the four basic rules in your daily life for example if you buy something from a shop and at the time of giving money you do some kind of calculation. The method you are using to calculate how much money you should give or if you have given some extra money to the shopkeeper then how much he should return. That all comes from the four rules of math.

Complete step-by-step answer:
There are so many branches of mathematics like algebra, number theory, arithmetic, geometry, calculus, set theory, and so on. But arithmetic is the main branch of mathematics that has its roots in all other branches of mathematics. All other branches of mathematics are incomplete without arithmetic.
Arithmetic is that branch of mathematics that deals with the study of numbers using various operations. The numbers at which we perform the operations is known as operand.
The various operations we perform on operands are addition \[(+)\] , subtraction \[(-)\] , multiplication \[(\times )\] and division \[(\div )\] . These four operations constitute the four rules of math.
Now, let us discuss every operation one by one.

I.Addition \[(+)\] :
Addition is the most basic operation of the arithmetic branch. Addition is used to add two or more values into a single quantity. That means to perform addition we at least need two operands. Let’s understand this by taking an example: say you have \[4\] candies of mango flavor and \[3\] candies of orange flavor so the total number of candies you have is \[7\] . To get the total number of candies you simply add them.
Mathematically, \[4+3=7\]

II.Subtraction \[(-)\] :
Subtraction is the reverse of addition. Subtraction also requires at least two operands. It is used to take away the value from another. Let’s consider the previous example: the total number of candies you have is \[7\] and the candy of orange flavor is \[3\] . So for calculating candies of mango flavor you have to deduct \[3\] from \[7\] which results \[4\] .
Mathematically, \[7-3=4\]

III.Multiplication \[(\times )\] :
Multiplication is another way to add the same numbers into a single quantity. Two operands are required to perform multiplication. For example if you want to add \[6\] , \[5\] times the first approach can be
\[6+6+6+6+6=30\] but this approach is time taking. So multiplication comes into picture.
 \[6\times 5=30\]

IV.Division \[(\div )\] :
Division is the reverse of multiplication. Division is used to split a larger quantity into equal smaller quantities. Let us say that if you have a total of \[10\] candies and you are supposed to distribute them among \[5\] friends. Then you simply give \[2\] candies to each friend.
Mathematically, \[10\div 5=2\]

Note: Addition and multiplication is commutative in nature, while subtraction and division is not commutative in nature. Commutative means if you perform first operand operation with second operand it always equals to second operand operation with first operand. That means reordering of operands does not affect the result.
