Hint: India is a vast country. The climatic conditions like temperature, humidity and rainfall vary from one region to another.
Complete answer:
The practices used in agriculture to facilitate farming are commonly called as agricultural practices. Some of the common agricultural practices are given below:
Farmers face a lot of problems during agricultural practices.
Some of the problems are listed as:
- Water shortage: Water is important for proper growth and development. Water is absorbed by the plant roots. Along with water, minerals and fertilizers are also absorbed. Plants contain nearly 90% water. Water scarcity impacts food production since enough water is not for watering the crops.
- High cost of manures and fertilizers: This enhances the water holding capacity of the soil and makes the soil porous due to which exchange of gases becomes easy. They also increase the number of friendly microbes thus improving the texture of the soil. Apart from all these benefits, manures and fertilizers are of very high cost and thus every farmer can’t afford resulting in low crop yield.
- Weeds: In a field many other undesirable plants may grow naturally along with the crop. These undesirable plants are called weeds. Weeds compete with crops for water, nutrients, space and light, thus affecting the growth of the crop. Some interfere even in harvesting and may be poisonous for animals and human beings.
- Lack of tools for farming
- Lack of Money
- Non-availability of good quality seeds
Following measures could be adopted by farmers in order to increase yield:
- Use of water saving micro-irrigation techniques such as drip irrigation and sprinkler irrigation.
- To replenish the soil with nutrients methods such as crop rotation (growing different crops alternately) should be adopted.
- Biofertilizers should be used.
Note:
When plants of the same kind are cultivated at one place on a large scale, it is called a crop which is classified based on the season in which they grow. Farmers are the key people associated with providing food to everyone.
