Hint An island of volcanic origin is known as a volcanic Island. In India, two volcanic islands are part of the East volcanic islands group of the Andaman islands group in the Andaman sea. The only active volcano located in the Indian Territory is part of this island group.

Complete step by step answer The two volcanic islands in the Indian Territory are Narcondam and Barren Island. Narcondam Island is part of the east volcano island group of the Andaman island group which is located in the northern Andaman sea. The peak of Narcondam Island rises to 710 meters above sea level and it is formed by andesite. Situated in the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands the Narcondam island’s volcanic mountain is the second tallest point, first being Saddle peak which stands at 752 meters above sea level.

Barren Island is also part of the east volcano islands which is located in the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar islands. Many volcanic eruptions have taken place here. The first volcanic eruption occurred in the year 1787. This island is in the midst of a volcanic belt on the edge of the Indian and Burmese tectonic plates. The highest elevation of this Island is 353 meters; most of the primitive volcano is underwater.

So the correct option is : (D) Narcondam and Barren. The two volcanic island groups in India are Narcondam and Barren.

Note The barren island located in the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar islands is the only active volcano found in the Indian territory as well as in south Asia along the chain of volcanoes from Sumatra to Myanmar. This island has no human population and few species of animals and birds are found here.
