Auxanometer is one of the most commonly used devices used for measuring the growth in plants. Two types of manometers are used. Arc auxanometer and Pfeffer’s automatic auxanometer.
Devices used to measure growth are:
Arc Auxanometer: It is composed of several parts, it is composed of a pulley connected to a pointer present on an arch scale over a vertical scale,
Pfeffer’s automatic auxanometer: It has a vertical stand that holds two pulleys. To one pulley is attached a thread carrying two weights at two ends which keep the thread stretched. One of the sides of the pulley is also attached to a pointer which is kept in such a way that it touches a smoked drum which helps in recording the growth.
Bose’s Crescograph: Highly sensitive apparatus based on the system of compound levels.
Space marker disc: It is used to measure the area of leaf and markings are done at regular intervals of time and the growth rates can be measured.
-Measurement of dry weight can also be done to measure growth.
