Hint: Replace split rings by slip ring to convert AC generator to a DC generator.

Complete step by step solution:
A split - ring commutator makes the current change direction every alternate half rotation whereas a slip ring commutator merely maintains a connection between the moving rotor and the stationary stator. As the direction of current every alternate half rotation, it essentially converts the current direction in every half-cycle to positive. Hence it converts an AC generator to DC generator.
The slip rings used in the AC generator can be removed and split rings can be replaced instead. New AC generator uses concave magnets, changes them, and lastly removes the coil and replaces it with an armature instead. The AC generator will start functioning as a DC generator.

Hence, (A) is the correct option.

So, if we want to convert an AC generator to a DC generator we must use a split ring type commutator.

Note: Slip ring helps to maintain a connection between the moving rotor and stator. The concepts of conversion of one type of device to another must be clear to the students. These devices are very helpful as sometimes we use AC generators and sometimes DC generators and if we clear their conversion from one to another, the expenses can be minimized.
