Hint: The chairman of the Constituent Assembly of India went on to become the first president of the Republic of India in the year 1950.

Complete Step by Step answer: The constituent Assembly of India was founded on 9 December 1946 with the aim to frame the constitution for the Independent India that would be formed on 15 August 1947. The temporary president of the Constituent Assembly was Sachchidananda Sinha while the permanent Chairman of the Assembly was Dr. Rajendra Prasad. The Assembly was disbanded on 26 January 1950, after the Republic of India was formed and Dr. Rajendra Prasad became the first president of India.

The structure of the constituent assembly was such that it consisted of 389 seats out of which 208 were from the Indian National Congress and 73 seats were occupied by the All India Muslim League. The Princely States in the Assembly had been allocated a total of 93 seats. The members were elected by a system of Single Transferable voting system and consisted of different committees. The most important committee, the drafting committee was headed by Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, who is often regarded as the architect of the constitution of India.

After the partition of India, the Indian faction of the Constituent Assembly was left with 299 seats and that was later succeeded by the Parliament of India.

Note: This is a fact-based question. However, it is not to be confused that B. R. Ambedkar was the chairman of the Drafting Committee, and not the Constituent Assembly.
