Hint: Before answering this question, we should know What is Osmosis. It is a passive process that happens without any expenditure of energy. In this, the movement of molecules from a region of higher concentration to lower concentration till the concentrations become equal on both sides of the membrane. Gases, supercritical liquids, and any solvent can undergo the process of osmosis.

Complete answer:
The preservation of pickles in salt is Osmosis. The salt helps in the removal of water from the cells and helps to preserve pickles.
Osmotic solutions:
There are three types of solutions-
Isotonic solutions, Hypertonic solutions, and hypotonic solutions.
Isotonic solutions: It has the same concentration of solutes both inside and outside the cell.
Hypertonic solutions: It has a higher solute concentration outside the cell than inside.
Hypotonic solutions: It has a higher solute concentration inside the cell than outside.
Types of osmosis:
There are two types of osmosis-
Endosmosis: When the substance is kept in a hypotonic solution, the molecules in the solvent go inside the cell and the cell becomes turgid. This is called endosmosis.
Exosmosis: When the substance is kept in a hypertonic solution, the molecules in the solvent go outside the cell and the cell becomes flaccid. This is called exosmosis.
What are the factors that affect the rate of osmosis:
The factors that affect the rate of osmosis are-
Pressure
Temperature
Surface area
Water potential
Concentration gradient

Note:
Reverse osmosis- It is a natural phenomenon that occurs in the opposite direction of natural osmosis. It is the kind of osmosis that helps to remove the majority of contaminants from water by pushing water under pressure through a semipermeable membrane.
