Hint:
Distance is the major component of a map which tells about time indirectly in the terms reaching at a particular place by fixed scale ratio of Distance. This factor reduces the large area in the required work sheet as a map. Generally we take many scales of drawing such as; 1cm of 1000 Km to the world Map and 1 cm of 1 km to a Village.

Complete answer:

Map is defined as the drawing of the layout (Earth’s Surface) of the world, country or particular region on a sheet of paper by using various factors, such as; Distance, Direction, Symbol, etc.

Scale is the ratio between the actual distance of any particular region and the distance shown on the map. Small scale map is used to show large areas like continents or countries and a large scale map is used to show small areas like villages or towns.

Second component of the map is Direction. Mostly, you might have seen the North in many maps which indicates the North direction of a particular region. When you know the north direction of any map, you can find out other directions, such as – East, West and South. There are two types of directions: Cardinal Direction and Intermediate Direction.

Cardinal Direction (Principle Points of Compass) – North, South, East and West

Intermediate Direction – Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest Directions found by Compass.

Symbol – It is impossible to draw the actual shape and size of different features such as buildings, roads, mountains, parks, etc. So we use the various type symbols at the place of natural and artificial features. Such as,Conventional Symbol – We use the various colors for showing some purposes. For Example; Blue colour - Water Bodies, Orange Colour - Mountains, Yellow Colour - Plateau and Green - Plains

Note:
Maps are various types, such as – Physical Maps or Geographic Map, Political Map and Thematic Map.

Geographic Map – These maps show the natural features of the Earth, such as – Mountains, Plateaus, Plains, Rivers, Oceans, etc.

Political Map – These maps show the town, village, cities, state and countries and also their boundaries.
