Hint: People must be aware that through hard word or smart work they can get the same final output, but what differs is the form and quality and the time spent on the work being done. The solution for a problem can be the same but, whether a person does smart or hard work to get to the solution part is what matters.

Complete answer: The difference between hard work and smart work can be understood, based on how a person approaches a task. Hard work would mean to spend long hours finishing the task without seeking any kind of shortcuts. Though we do get the result, it's a very long and tiring process.
Smart work would be to aim for the same results but with the help of pre-planning and prioritization of our tasks. To understand the difference between hard work and smart work in a much better way we can look at an example: In College, the pattern of the questions given for the exams was very repetitive every year. The same questions asked in the previous years were repeated again. Since then, for the examinations, few students would only study the previous 5 years questions. For the rest of the year, the students would focus on studying the rest of the portion. Therefore, the students worked hard to study the entire syllabus for their academic year and worked smart to do well in their exams. Therefore, a combination of smart work and hard work is also known to assure great results.

Note: This question is based on your understanding. Do not get confused between what smart work and hard work are. They are both different concepts that are unique to every individual learning and working style, that often provide us with the same end result.
