Whenever a force acting on a body displaces the body through some distance, we can say that work is done on the body. In simple, we can say that work is the force that is applied to some distance.
Impulse is important in the study of momentum and it is equal to the net force on the body times the period over which the force is applied.
Impulse is a vector quantity and thus has both magnitude and direction. The positive impulse indicates that the net force acting will be in a positive direction and similarly negative impulse indicates that the net force acting will be in the negative direction.
Work done is positive, when the force displaces the object in its direction. Work done is negative, If the force and the displacement are in opposite directions.
Also doing work is the process through which the force changes the energy of the body on which it is acting while the impulse of the body is the force given which is equal to the change in the body’s momentum.

Note: Even though the impulse and the work depend on the external net force in general they are different quantities.
