Hint: The diagram to be drawn should be neat, clean and should have the arrow directions correctly. Remember that the objects which are to be marked and drawn include the Sun, the moon, the earth, umbra and penumbra. Keep in mind that the diagram is to be made with pencil and ruler and the lines should be thin and straight.

Complete answer:
Draw the sun, moon and earth on a straight line, take a line passing through the middle of all the three.

Now take the ruler and pencil and connect the sun and earth to their end points by using dotted lines.

Now extend the sketched lines beyond the earth and do this with fixed lines, not broken. Now mark the earth, the portion which is receiving light and which is having night.Mark all the regions, the sun, the moon, the earth, the region of umbra and penumbra.Remember to give arrow heads to indicate the direction of light.

To represent the region of darkness, slightly darken the region of penumbra and deeply darken the region of umbra using your pencil. Keep in mind that the region of umbra should keep the moon within it. The final diagram should look as follows :

Note: The main thing which students forget is that they do not give arrowheads indicating the directions of light. Keep in mind that the Lunar eclipse is a phenomenon due to the absence of light and thus indicating the direction is very important.
