Hint:The pinhole camera is the simplest kind of the camera having no lens. First draw a diagram of formation of image with a pinhole camera. From this device we can see the images inverted or upside down then discuss how the tiny opening or pin hole works. Next show the effect of outside light through the tiny hole.
Complete step by step solution:
Let's consider a pinhole camera and a man is standing in front of the camera as is shown in the (Fig-1) and then observe the image of it through the small pipe opening. A light is coming from the top of the man and goes straight towards the bottom of the screen and light which comes from the bottom portion goes towards the top of the screen. This leads to the formation of inverted images. This happens due to the rectilinear property of light. The light enters the small pinhole and projects on to the screen. Light from an object passes through the aperture and projects an inverted image on the opposite side of the box.
Consider the formation of image with a pinhole camera as,
(Fig-1)
Consider the ray diagram of the image with pinhole camera as,
(Fig-2)
Note:Upto a certain point, a smaller pinhole will result in a sharper image resolution. An extremely small hole, can produce some diffraction effects and a less clear image due to wave properties of light.
If we increase the size of the hole of a pinhole camera, we get blurred images on the screen.
