Hint:Nervous tissue is present in the nervous system which helps in monitoring and regulation of different functions of the body.
Complete answer:
In our body, different types of tissues are found out of which one of them is nervous tissue. Nervous tissue is made up of two types of cells,
->Neuron
->Glial cells
Characteristics of nervous tissue
They make up the CNS and PNS.
The nerve cells are long and they do not divide or get replaced.
They secrete neurotransmitters which helps in stimulating other neurons.
Structure of nervous tissue
The nervous tissue is made of neurons which are also known as nerve cells. The structure of neuron is as follows,
>Nucleus - It is present in the cell body along with cell organelles and cytoplasm.
>Axon - It is a long stem like projection which emerges from the cell It helps in communication of one neuron with another by passing impulses.
>Dendrite - It is a branched process and helps in receiving signals and information from other neurons. It is present away from the cell body.
>Myelin sheath - It is present around the nerves and it acts as an insulating layer. It helps in transmitting electrical impulses quickly across the nerve cells.
>Node of Ranvier - These are the gaps which are present between myelin sheath.
>Synaptic terminal - They are axon terminals and help in release of neurotransmitters of presynaptic cells.
Note: The function of nervous tissues are,
->They help in communication.
->They act as carriers for carrying messages from neuron to the cell body.
->They help in responding to stimuli.
->They help in generation of nerve impulses.
