Hint: Epidermis is called the outer layer of the skin and it protects skin from UV light, infection and loss of important nuclei, and water. It provides a waterproof barrier and creates skin tone. Actually, three layers are present in the skin. It avoids infection from environmental barriers called pathogens. These three layers of cells developed from stem cells in the basal layer.

Complete answer:
Epidermis is made by multiple layers of flattened cells. Human epidermis is the best example for epithelium particularly called stratified squamous epithelium. The parts of stratified epithelium are dead cells, thin and flat cells. The cells present in this layer are called keratinocytes. This is made by the protein called keratin. It is used to strengthen the skin and provide water proof. This will reduce or maintain the water loss in the body.
In this layer, melanocytes, Merkel cells and Langerhans cells are present. Melanocytes produce the melanin it gives the color for skin and also protect skin from UV. The Merkel cell is responsible for light touch sensation. Langerhans cells which are part of the immune system are also present in this layer.

Note:
A Stratified squamous layer is the combined form of layers and only one layer is attached to the basement membrane. Remaining layers adhere with other layers to maintain the structural integrity. At the last layer or deeper layer, cells are in the form of columnar or cuboidal cells. It protects the skin from mechanical stress and chemical abrasions. It is the covering and lining part of the body.
