So, the role of the temperature is to determine the direction of flow of heat. The temperature of steam is very high, which shows it is very hot. On the other hand, the temperature of ice is very low which shows it is very cold. Thus, temperature is the measure of hotness or the coldness of a body. Hence the answer is the temperature.
