Complete answer:
The word Jai Hind was originally invented in 1907 by Shenbagaraman Pillai. Narendra Luther, a retired civil servant, attributed it to Zain-ul Abideen Hasan in his book "Legendotes of Hyderabad'' based on historical evidence, interviews and analysis. Later, Zain-ul-Abideen became an INA major and engaged in campaigns in India. In his army, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose wanted an Indian style salute and there were different suggestions. Zain-Ul-Abideen came up with 'Jai Hind' and it was happily embraced by Netaji Bose for INA based on the recommendation of Zain-Ul-Abideen in 1941.

The term became popular particularly between 1943-45, as a slogan and salutation in speeches and correspondence relating to or referring to patriotism against India (also known as Hind). It is a battle cry most widely used in India. It loosely translates to "Hail India" or "Victory to India "or" Long live India'' of the Indian National Army organized by Subhash Chandra Bose and his colleagues. It originated as a national slogan after India's independence, and has become a popular way of welcoming the people of India through its political leaders and prime ministers, such as Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, P V Narasimha Rao, and others. It has been used as a greeting and has caught the Indian imagination and has been immortalized as the war cry of the Indian National Army by Subhash Chandra Bose (Azad Hind Fauj) by Indian Army personnel since the mid-1990s.
