Complete answer:
The revolt of 1857 who was the major but ultimately and successful Battle against the British. It nearly lasted for one year. It was the first war towards Independence by Indians against the British. India lost the battle because the Britishers had more modified weapons to use against us. Now , lets see the options:-

Lord Dalhousie- His Viceroy as a Governor General was from 1848- 1856. He was also responsible for introducing the doctrine of lapse in India. It stated that if any Indian ruler dies without leaving a male child then the kingdom would be automatically passed over to the British, hence this option is incorrect.

Charles Canning- Lord Dalhousie was succeeded by Charles Canning. His Viceroy was from 1856- 58. He was responsible for withdrawing the Doctrine of Lapse. He was the Governor General during the Sepoy Mutiny. Hence it's the correct option.

Lord Curzon- His viceroy was from 1899- 1905. Lord Curzon was also responsible for the Partition of Bengal in 1905. Hence it's the incorrect option.

Lord Dufferin- His viceroy was from 1884- 88. He was the Governor general of India when the Indian National Congress was formed, hence it is the incorrect option .

Hence, the correct answer is option (B)
