Hint: Many studies have proved that air pollution has an adverse effect on the beautiful white-marbled monument situated in Agra – Taj Mahal. Air pollution is causing a fast discoloration of Taj Mahal, changing the colour of its marbles from white to yellowish-brown.

Complete answer: Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan, a Mogul Emperor, in the 17th century for his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Many researchers have found that the area surrounding Taj Mahal is full of light absorbing particles such as brown organic carbon and black carbon particles, and dust. Results have proved that these light absorbing particles are responsible for its discoloration. The marbles have become darker in colour as compared to what it was earlier. The air pollution indicator has shown a high level of particulate concentration in that area.
Thus, it is the need to protect this heritage from destruction. Some of the useful steps that should be taken are as follows:
Use of personal vehicles around the 2 km premises should be banned to reduce pollution due to emission of harmful gases from the vehicles.
The factories that are present in the nearby place should be given an emission limit that must be followed strictly.
Burning of garbage or any other material near the premises should be completely banned.
Yamuna River flows from just behind the Taj Mahal and pollution in that river is a big challenge as industrial waste and untreated sewage is also dumped into the river. Thus, strategies should be made to clean the Yamuna River and dumping any waste into the river must be made punishable.
Waste management system should be well defined to protect the area and make it greener.
More plants should be grown in the city to cope up with the existing pollution faster.

Note: Taj Mahal is one and only wonder from the Seven Wonders of the World, present in India. But its condition is deteriorating, thus this treasure must be preserved before it becomes ruinous.
