Hint: There are five lobes in the lungs. Every lobe has the same physiologic function i.e it brings oxygen into the bloodstream and removes the carbon dioxide. For the treatment of a condition such as lung cancer, tuberculosis, and emphysema the sections of a lobe or even the entire lobe can be removed.
Complete answer:
-The lung is present on either side of the heart. It is located in the two chambers of the thoracic cavity. Both the lungs are similar in appearance but they are not identical.
-The lungs are divided into the lobes by the fissures(double folds of pleura). The right lung consists of three lobes and the left lung consists of two lobes. These lobes are divided into segments and then into lobules.
Lobes of the lung-
Right lung- It is 5 centimeters small then we left lung. So that it can accommodate the diaphragm.in comparison to the left lung, the volume, total capacity, and weight are much greater. It is divided into three lobes-
1)The upper lobe-it is the largest lobe of the right lung. It is present from the apex of the lung down to the horizontal and oblique fissures. It carries up apical, anterior, and posterior bronchopulmonary segments.
2)The Middle Lobe - it is the smallest lobe of the right lung present between the horizontal and the oblique fissures. It carries medial and lateral bronchopulmonary segments.
3)The Lower Lobe -It is the bottom lobe of the right lung. It presents beneath the oblique fissure. It carries medial, lateral, superior, anterior, and posterior bronchopulmonary segments.
Additional Information:In comparison to the right lump, the left language is small and narrow. It is divided into two-lobe- upper and lower by an oblique fissure.
The Upper Lobe - It comprises anterior and apicoposterior bronchopulmonary segments. It is present above the oblique fissure.
The Lower Lobe- It comprises superior, anterior, posterior, medial, and lateral bronchopulmonary segments.
Lingula- It is not considered as a lobe. It is analogous to the middle lobe of the right lung. It comprises superior and inferior bronchopulmonary segments.
So, the correct answer is,”3”.
Note: -Each lung consists of smaller units known as lobes. These lobes separate from each other by fissures. The right lung comprises three lobes which are the superior, middle, and inferior lobes. The left lung comprises two lobes which are the superior and inferior lobes.
-It helps in the transport of oxygen from the atmosphere into the bloodstream and releases carbon dioxide from the bloodstream into the atmosphere.
