Hint: The natural features or artificial features of the solid surface of the earth is called landform. Different types of landforms together form a terrain.
Different types of plant and animal species are generally found in different types of landforms.

Complete answer:
India is a country with very diverse landforms. The Indian terrain is very famous because of its geography which is characterized by intensely contrasting landforms.
The Himalayan Mountain Range – It forms the northern boundary of India. The Himalayan region in Jammu and Kashmir consists of both foothills and the highest peaks. The region in Himachal Pradesh is covered with snow and coniferous forests.
The Thar Desert – In contrast to the Himalayas, this is the hottest region in India. It is the seventh-largest desert in the world. Winters are freezing cold and the summers are extremely hot, and hence it is one of the least habitable places in India. Even with such a harsh climate, it is home to more than 140 native birds.
The Northern Plains – These regions are the banks of rivers which flow in the Northern part of India. It is basically the Ganga River Basin which also includes all its tributaries like Yamuna, Kosi, Son, Gandak etc.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands – They are a group of islands present in the Bay of Bengal and located just to the south of Burma. The climate here is similar to a tropical rainforest i.e. hot and humid. Its origin is very similar to the Himalayas. It is also home to two active volcanoes, “the Barren Island volcano” and “the Narcondam volcano”.
All these different and highly contrasting geographical features make India very vast and rich in terms of landforms.

The answer is 1. Due to varied landforms

Note:
Since the Indian terrain has so much variety, it naturally becomes home to an even more diverse collection of flora and fauna.
Each of the landforms has its endemic species of plants and animals. ‘Endemic’ refers to the species which are found only in that specific place.
