Hint: Mining is the process of extraction of valuable minerals or other geological materials from the Earth. Many kinds of minerals, usually an orebody, are extracted from the Earth which is of economic interest to the miner.
Complete Step by Step Answer:
Minerals are homogenous naturally occurring substances with a definable internal structure and rocks are combinations of these homogenous substances. Some rocks consist of a single mineral only, but most of them consist of several minerals in varying proportions. Minerals can be found in varied forms in nature. There are three types of minerals: Metallic minerals which include Ferrous, Non-Ferrous and Precious metals, then Non-Metallic, and lastly Energy minerals. Except for bauxite, India is poorly endowed with non-ferrous metallic minerals. These are copper, lead, gold, bauxite, and zinc. Thus, Copper reserves are very less in India. These minerals play a very prominent role in a number of engineering, metallurgical, and electrical industries.
Copper is an indispensable metal in the electrical industry for making wires, transformers, electric motors, and generators. It is malleable, alloyable, and ductile. To provide strength to jewelry, it is also mixed with gold. The Copper deposits are mainly found in the Balaghat district in Madhya Pradesh, Singhbhum district in Jharkhand, and Jhunjhunu and Alwar districts in Rajasthan. Minor producers of Copper are Chitradurg and Hasan districts (Karnataka), Agnigundala in Guntur District (Andhra Pradesh), and South Arcot district (Tamil Nadu).
Out of these, Khetri mines in Rajasthan and Singhbhum district are the leading producers of copper.
Thus, option (B) is correct.
Note: Chile is the leading producer of copper in the world and China is at the second number.
