For the conservation of which were on the verge of Extinction, an initiative was launched. The initiative was called ‘Project Tiger’. It was launched in 1973. Earlier in India there were only 9 tiger reserves but due to this initiative the number has increased to 47 tiger reserves in today’s day and age.Project Tiger is an ongoing Centrally Sponsored Scheme of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change providing central assistance to the tiger States for tiger conservation in designated tiger reserves.
