Hint: Plants eliminate excess water across stomatal pores present on leaves. The epidermis is the outer layer of the plants. They form a border between the plant and the external environment.

Complete answer:
Loss of water through the epidermis of aerial parts of the plants is reduced by closing of stomata. Stomatal openings cause loss of water within the form of water vapour through a process referred to as transpiration. Closing of stomata causes a reduction in transpiration and hence prevents water loss.

Additional Information: Stomata are minute pores present on the lower side of the leaves that help within the exchange of gases and water vapour. When the stomatal pores open, the speed of transpiration increases, and when the pores are closed, the loss of water is reduced.
The epidermis serves several functions which are –
-They protects against water loss
-They regulates gas exchange
-They secretes metabolic compounds
-They absorb water and mineral nutrients.
Importance of Transpiration in Plants are-
1. Transpiration helps within the conduction of water and minerals to different parts of the plants.
2. Due to the continual elimination of water from the plant body, there's a balance of water maintained within the plant. It maintains osmosis and keeps the cells rigid.
3. A suction force is made by transpiration that helps the upward movement of water within the plants.
4. It maintains the turgidity of the cells and helps in cellular division.
5. Optimum transpiration helps within the proper growth of the plants.

Note: Transpiration in plants is a crucial process. Within the absence of transpiration, excess water will accumulate within the plant cells, and the cells will eventually burst. Quite 10% of the earth’s moisture is from transpiration. It’s known to be an area of the water cycle.
