Hint: It was the attack by a neighbour that led to the Accession of Jammu and Kashmir into the union of India. The country before independence used to be a part of undivided India and has its own cricket team.

Complete answer:
When the terms and conditions for partition were being decided, at that time Princely states were given multiple options, either they could join India or Pakistan after Independence or they could be independent. During that time Jammu and Kashmir was being ruled by Raja Hari Singh of the Dogra dynasty.

Now, it should be kept in mind Raja Hari Singh was a Hindu ruler who was ruling a state that predominantly consisted of Muslims. Usually rulers of Princely state are to decide what people want to choose between India, Pakistan or staying independent. But the majority of the rulers of princely states did not abide by this and Raja Hari Singh was one of them. Also Raja Hari Singh kept delaying while choosing sides, he did that to sustain the independent status of Jammu and Kashmir.

In October nineteen forty seven Pashtun tribesmen crossed borders and invaded Jammu and Kashmir. Raja Hari Singh and his forces tried to defend but they failed. Raja Hari Singh was, he had no choice but to go to Nehru, then prime minister of India for help. Nehru and Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, then home minister of India took advantage of this situation. Nehru and Patel pressurised Raja Hari Singh into joining the Indian dominion in exchange of help, which Raja Hari Singh agreed to.

Hence, the correct answer is option (C).

Note: The instrument of accession was signed on October 26 in 1947. This day is often observed as black day by Kashmiri separatists. These events of accession also led to the first Indo-Pakistan war.
