The metric system is the system of measurement which uses the meter, liter and gram as the base units of the length (distance), capacity (volume) and weight (mass) respectively. Metric systems are used to measure smaller or larger quantities. Generally, we use units derived from the metric units.
The mnemonic way to remember the metric system is “King Henry Died Drinking Chocolate Milk” which gives us the funny memorable way to keep the prefixes straight.

Different types of system of units are –
SI (International system of units)

MKS (Meter-kilogram-second) system
MKS system is the system of units, where length is measured in meters, mass in kilogram and time in seconds. Generally, MKS systems are used in engineering and in advanced physics.
CGS (centimetre-gram-second) system
CGS system is the system of units, where length is measured in centimeters, mass in grams and time in seconds. Generally, CGS systems are used in theoretical studies of physics.
 It is very important to know the difference between the system of units and the conversional ratios between them. Since if we say mass of one it does not make any sense, also mass of one gram and one kilogram differs a lot as $1kg = 1000g$ .
