Complete answer: Rocks composed the crust of the earth. An accumulation of one or more minerals is called a rock. Rocks are of various structures, they are either hard or soft and they are in varied colours.
-There are different types of rocks that are grouped into three major groups. Igneous rocks, Metamorphic rocks, and Sedimentary rock are the three major families of rocks. The word metamorphic means change of form. Under the action of pressure, temperature, volume changes, these rocks are formed.
-The Latin word, sediment means settling and the word sedimentary is derived from it. The sedimentary rocks are exposed to denudational agents and these rocks are broken up into various sizes.
-Rocks generally undergo a transformation and it does not remain in their original form for long. A continuous process through which old rocks are transformed into new ones is known as the Rock cycle.
-The sedimentary and metamorphic rocks are from the primary rocks or igneous rocks. Igneous rocks can be converted into metamorphic rocks. The fragments derived or developed out of the igneous and metamorphic rocks form into sedimentary rocks.

Note: A process in which rocks are forced down to lower levels by tectonic processes or when molten magma rising through the crust comes in contact with the crustal rocks on the underlying rocks are subjected to great amounts of pressure by overlying rocks is called Metamorphism.
