Hint: we should revise the concept of multimolecular colloids in which a large number of atoms or small molecules (having diameters of less than 1nm) of a substance combine together in a dispersion medium to form aggregates having size in the colloidal range.
Complete step by step answer:
We have already seen that the colloidal particles present in a colloidal system have size lying in the range 1nm-100nm.
Multimolecular Colloids: In these types of colloids a large number of atoms or small molecules (having diameters of less than 1nm) of a substance combine together in a dispersion medium to form aggregates having size in the colloidal range, the colloidal solutions thus formed are called multimolecular colloids.
Sol of gold and sol of sulphur are the examples of multimolecular colloids. We should know that gold sol may contain particles of various sizes composed of several atoms of gold. Similarly, sulphur sol consists of particles containing about a thousand of S-8 molecules.
So our correct options are option A and option C.
Additional Information:
We should also know about macromolecular Colloids in which certain substances form large molecules whose dimensions are comparable to those of colloidal particles. Such molecules have very high molecular masses and are termed as macromolecules. When such substances are dispersed in a suitable dispersion medium, the resulting colloidal solutions are known as macromolecular colloids. Thus, in macromolecular colloids, the dispersed particles are themselves large molecules having very high molecular masses.
Examples are starch, proteins, gelatin, cellulose, nucleic acids.
Note: Multi Molecular Colloids and macromolecular colloids, classification of these colloids are based on properties of sol particles. This classification should not get confused with classification based on interaction forces between the dispersion medium and dispersed phase which are lyophilic sols and lyophobic sols. Colloids classification is also based on dispersion mediums such as hydrosol, alcosol.
