Hint: Meiosis is a reduction cell division. The gametes produced from meiosis contain a half number of chromosomes of the original somatic cells. There are eight stages of meiosis, four stages are found in each part of the meiosis.
Complete answer:
Meiosis occurs in sex cells, such as sperm cells and egg cells of humans. A single parent cell undergoes meiosis to produce four daughter cells. Each of these daughter cells contains half of the genetic information of the parent cell. Before going through meiosis, the cell must have completed the interphase of the cell cycle. The interphase of the cell cycle is also known as S phase, which occurs between two growth phases. The interphase or synthesis phase is the most necessary step to occur before meiosis. In this phage, all the chromosomes are replicated by the cell. Cells grow and some necessary changes occur in the cell to make it capable of dividing. After DNA replication, each chromosome has two sister chromatids and genomes are doubled. Further when cells with doubled genomes undergo through meiosis, they are allocated among four haploid daughter cells.
Note:
-Unlike mitosis, there are production of different combinations in four daughter cells in meiosis.
-In meiosis, nuclear division occurs twice.
-Further in the reproduction, the male and female gamete combine to form an unique genetic combination, maintaining the ploidy.
