Hint:We must know that the chemical formula of sodium carbonate (washing soda) is \[N{a_2}C{O_3}\] which is also known as soda ash or soda crystals. It is an organic compound and its formula varies for its hydrates. But all forms are white and water-soluble. When it is heated it undergoes a thermal decomposition reaction.

Complete step by step answer:As we know sodium carbonate is washing soda with the chemical formula \[N{a_2}C{O_3}\]. But its formula varies with hydrates. These are either bound to a metal center or crystallized with the metal complex. This is also known as crystal carbonate. When sodium carbonate undergoes heating with 500 degree Celsius this reaction takes place,
\[N{a_2}C{O_{3(s)}} \to N{a_2}{O_{(s)}} + C{O_2}\]
The name of the first reaction product \[N{a_2}O\] is sodium oxide which is solid and used in glassmaking and the second reaction product is carbon dioxide which is a gas resulting from all biological respiration processes.
In this question, we have to find out the product on heating sodium carbonate. We know that one form of sodium carbonate commonly known as washing soda is available in an anhydrous form which gives both sodium oxide as well as carbon dioxide.

Therefore, the correct answer is option C i.e. Both a and b.

Note:Since we cannot find the absolute internal energy or enthalpy of gas so we deal with the change of internal energy of a system through different hydrates. There are some processes carried out to change one state of the system to another such as, isothermal (temperature constant), isobaric (pressure constant), isochoric (volume constant), reversible, irreversible, etc.
