Hint: We use the definition of quadratic equation and the concept and formula of quadratic formula. Write the possible applications on the basis of the concept of quadratic formula i.e. the real life situations where we can associate location of any object with quadratic equations.
Complete step by step solution:
We know quadratic equation is of the type \[a{x^2} + bx + c = 0\]
Then the quadratic formula gives the roots of the quadratic equation i.e. it gives those values of ‘x’ that makes the quadratic equation as 0.
Quadratic formula for quadratic equation \[a{x^2} + bx + c = 0\] is \[x = \dfrac{{ - b \pm \sqrt {{b^2} - 4ac} }}{{2a}}\]
1) Finding the profit or loss:
If companies have to calculate profit and loss according to the number of items, they fix the price of the item and calculate the profit or loss according to the number of sold items.
2) Calculating areas:
Quadratic equations help in calculating areas of places where one dimension is related to another dimension. We write all dimensions in terms of one variable and form quadratic equations and use quadratic formulas.
3) Determining speed:
The speed of any object can be found using a quadratic equation. Example: speed of a boat going upstream and going downstream. Adding and subtracting speed and forming equations.
4) Engineering:
In automobiles, other engineering auto-bodies are designed using quadratic formulas, reactions and motions of bodies are dependent on time and other factors. Engineers use quadratic formulas to solve the equations for auto-bodies.
Note: Many students make the mistake of giving the examples in particular like ‘if one number is two times the other and the sum of two numbers is given as’, keep in mind we have to give real life applications where the quadratic formula is used in daily life.
